Ira David Shocket, M.D.

Dr. David Shocket completed his undergraduate education at the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in 1979 and received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1984. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at University Hospital in Boston, Mass., and his Fellowship in Gastroenterology/Hepatology/Nutrition at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center also in Boston. Dr. Shocket served as Director of Endoscopy at the Boston Veteran’s Administration Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Boston University School of Medicine from 1987 to 1989. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology, and American College of Physicians. Dr. Shocket serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the District of Columbia Crohn’s and Colitis Chapter, and on the Board of Capital Digestive Care; he also serves as a volunteer physician for So Others Might Eat (S.O.M.E.).

He is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at Georgetown University. His professional interests include colon cancer screening and inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis). In addition to spending time with his family, Dr. Shocket enjoys playing tennis.
